Intern Insight: Say Hello To Caroline!
Feeling super lucky that I have not one, but TWO brilliant interns this summer. As promised, here's the other great gal helping me this summer–Caroline!!
1) Where are you from and what led you to New York City?
I was born and raised in Virginia, but left the southern beach life for the hustling and bustling of the city! I have always been a creative lover of design and when I got accepted to Parsons the New School for Design I could not resist the lifestyle change and haven't regretted it since!
2) What led you to this internship?
I am a sucker for handmade goods, DIY, the wedding industry, typography, and paper products! I had found Fourteen-Forty's website online and started following the Facebook, and Instagram. After falling in love with everything I saw, there was no doubt in my mind about wanting to be a part of something so special and beautiful!
3) What are some of your hobbies?
When it comes to shopping (which I love) I go for the thrift shops, the flea markets, and the antique stores, those always have the best finds! For exercise I love anything from yoga to bike riding or anything outdoors! If free time was all day everyday you would find me doing things such as: crafting, knitting, photography, making flower arrangements, and baking. I love trying new things, exploring the city, and trying different food!
4) What are you majoring in and how has this influenced you in the creative world?
I am a Communication Design Major which consists of learning the fundamentals of graphic design, typography, branding, web design, advertising, etc. I have always been unsure about what I wanted to do "when I grow up" because I honestly love way too many things! I think this major has handed me the tools to be a great designer in no matter what direction I go in, which is very important. It allows me to grow as a designer but not limit myself to one area of interest. I think one of the most important things to remember while your young is to keep a positive, open-mind on where you may go in life.
5) What has your experience at Fourteen-Forty been like so far?
Wonderful! I love small businesses, and having the perspective to see the whole process behind what goes on is so great to learn about. Patricia's aesthetic and style is so inspiring and being exposed to such a great production is an amazing opportunity. In addition, I love how one day we will be crafting and the next we will be putting together final invitations and envelopes for a wedding. It has been a great experience so far and I am excited to learn even more continuing through the summer!
