Intern Insight: Say Hello To Stephanie!

There's a lot of things that have to happen behind-the-scenes before an invitation suite is ready to go out the door and into the hands of my lovely clients. Here to help this summer are my two brand new interns, Stephanie and Caroline! I don't know how I ever got anything done without them!

So first up, I'd like to introduce Stephanie. She likes Spider-Man, milkshakes and sappy romantic comedies!

1) Where are you from and where are you now?

I was born in Flushing, Queens, NY and, since then, I've lived in various towns throughout suburban Illinois and Northern New Jersey, which is where I live now! For most of the year though, I'm away at Amherst College in the tiny college town of Amherst, Massachusetts.

2) What are some of your hobbies?

I'm still a ten-year-old at heart (and height) so I love reading superhero comic books and playing video games. I recently bought the newest Animal Crossing and I'm really excited for the upcoming Final Fantasy XV game. When I'm at school, I'm part of an awesome dance performance group that focuses on Korean pop & hip-hop choreography, which is always fun.

I'm also a hardcore Tumblr user; I love finding new inspiration blogs to follow. Looking at the beautiful creations people put online usually gets me motivated enough to plug in my own tablet and get to work. One of my favorite blogs is Clients From Hell, a "collection of anonymously contributed client horror stories from designers." I've probably spent way too many hours laughing on this site.

3) What are you majoring in and how has this influenced you in the creative world?

Up until my senior year of high school, I imagined myself going to art school and majoring in graphic design. Instead, for a number of reasons, I'm at a liberal arts school, intending on majoring in studio arts. While I still wish I was studying graphic design, Amherst's open curriculum lets me study whatever I want, from Japanese film history to East Asian models of development. I'm being forced to take classes like Drawing and Sculpture to fulfill my major, which takes me back to the roots of why I started loving art in the first place. It's all been influencing my personal style anyways so, all in all, I think it was a fair trade-off.

4) What led you to this internship?

I've interned at a stationery design studio before and I knew I wanted to continue in the field so finding Fourteen-Forty's call for interns was so serendipitous! I loved the photos I saw on Facebook and Patricia's use of colors & type. It just really fit with my own personal aesthetics and I feel so lucky that Patricia took me on as an intern. Working in the city is also always a bonus.

5) What has your experience at Fourteen-Forty been like so far?

It's been great! Working for Patricia has been a great learning experience. She manages every aspect of Fourteen-Forty so beautifully and I really appreciate how she lets us interns experience each of those aspects, from production to networking to photography. I came into this internship already loving the wedding and stationery industries but I think I'm going to leave this summer with a greater appreciation for them. I'm very excited to see how the rest of the summer goes.
